Future Community Scenario Challenges. Lingang New Area is different from Shanghai Urban Area and has a higher and broader international vision at the beginning of new city construction. In recent years, the level of urban development of Lingang has greatly improved, and the framework of a modern world-class new city has been initially formed: the population concentration effect is obvious, the framework of a network convenient and efficient transportation system has been fundamentally formed, the functions of high-quality international city service are basically completed, the basic framework for the construction of the digital city has been formed, the regional ecological environment has been further improved, and efforts were made to achieve the “15-minute living service circle” and become the benchmark for the future construction of the city. As one of the exhibitions of the 2021 Shanghai Urban Space Art Season – Lingang Sample Exhibition, the cycling pavilion is designed as a spatial experience node to experience the future way of life and the spatial characteristics of Lingang, emphasizing the “cycling movement”.
Carbon reduction – a low carbon system led by bamboo and steel. The comprehensive coverage of the low-carbon system for the future living condition and the construction of green cities is one of the goals of the Lingang New Area. As one of the nodes of the bicycle pavilion and street furniture service system, the bicycle pavilion structure system is made of steel and wooden structure from the very beginning to reduce carbon emissions. Low-carbon green building is considered from the production and processing of main materials, the transportation of materials and equipment, the construction process and the operation of the building.
Facing the completed site, the foundation of the cycle pavilion building intervenes in the site which has minimal impact on the ground covering, using 200 mm I-beams as the foundation, which is fixed to the ground by anchor bolts 20mm. The foundation is made of a 200 mm I-beam and fixed to the ground by 20 mm anchor bolts. The traditional concrete slab is not cast in place, which reduces carbon emissions during the construction process and material production.
The construction process is highly efficient and can reduce carbon emissions by more than 40% over its lifetime, which is an important technological pathway to achieve “peak carbon” and “carbon neutrality” in the construction industry. The construction process also has a good effect of dust reduction, saving water, electricity and other energy, while achieving the original purpose of energy saving and environmental protection. environment.
The light intervention of structures assembled in bamboo and wood. We thought about how to make the building adaptable to the city that needs micro-renewal and integrate with the site with the lightest intervention within the constraints of the site conditions. The cycling pavilion is an assembled construction with a bamboo and wooden structure, and the material utilization rate is improved by optimizing the decommissioning and reusing the components.
Interspersed parking. The spacing of the structural posts is set to accommodate bicycle wheels, which can be easily inserted for parking, and children can easily park their bicycles there, which can also meet the parking needs of nearby residents when it there is no demand for professional events during normal times.
Suspended parking. The hanging parking is suitable for professional road cycling events, where professional bicycles cannot be parked independently and have little weight, and can be hung on the crossbar to reach a number of bicycle storage and parking. The suspension crossbar is rotated by a combination of bolts as well as strong magnets and can be stored when not happening.
A pavilion on cycling. Ready-made wooden spokes sweep the air, creating a smooth curved surface.
Structure. In the way the beams are assembled, the architects staggered the beams and nibbed them so that the carrying and holding systems of the wooden structure were integrated into one, “weaving” them into a stable triangular structure, eliminating thus the diagonal bracing. This simple construction gives the building structure visual certainty and unity.
