Chelsea Ganino is rarely without stacks of bracelets lining her forearms. “I never take them off; everyone has a story,” she says, choosing several to recount who gave it to her or where she found it. His
stylish statements – fashion icon Iris Apfel is an inspiration – translate seamlessly to her. Almost every room has a story, from the ornate Italian salt and pepper shakers (a nod to her husband’s family roots) to the piano-lacquer cabinet near the entry (marked in a New Orleans antique store ).
“I’m a collector and always bring little treasures to add here and there,” says Chelsea, sales representative at Kravet. “My dearest friend, [designer] Carrie Valentine Stearns, says my style is maximalism – I always want more!”
Chelsea’s husband James describes her look as a little more streamlined, a vibe he’s infused into the couple’s refurbished backpacker kitchen in Plymouth.
James credits his experience running the WD Flooring showroom in the North Loop for fueling his design chops, but his family also had an impact. “Having visited family in Italy, I knew how Italian marble ages and weathers, so we incorporated that into our kitchen backsplash and countertops,” he says. Leather pulls and cabinet hardware from The Knobbery complement stylish cabinetry.
Throughout the home, which the couple share with their four dogs, Chelsea mixed her estate sale and thrift finds with family heirlooms she inherited, like the guest bedroom suite of furniture, which first belonged to his great-grandmother, then to his grandmother.
In other places, she fortunately inherited the original parts of the house, such as the pink and black tiles in the bathroom. Similar to the way she layers her bracelets, she accented the bath with “funky Christian Lacroix wallpaper,” she says. “I love that 50s vibe and never really wanted to do much about it. It makes me happy every time I’m there!
“I am a collector and I always bring little treasures to add here and there. I have one love lamps and have cargo in the basement just waiting to light up a cozy little corner.”
