Launch of the new Nordic furniture brand Million in Northmodern

Nordic nous: launch of the new Danish brand Million with an eclectic furniture offer

There is a new Copenhagen-based design player on the block. Showcasing its inaugural collection at Northmodern last week, Million is a modern Nordic brand of furniture and lighting that blends classic Danish style with a host of international aesthetics.

Launched earlier this year, the company is the brainchild of two childhood friends, carpenter and designer Claus Jakobsen and graphic designer Jens Kajus. Claiming that their influences derive from early 20th-century German and Danish styles – with sleek, oversized pendants overlooking clean, graphic wood and steel tables – it’s no surprise to learn that chief designer Jakobsen worked for the Danish power stations Hay and Muuto. “We are interested in design heroes like Alvar Aalto, Gunnar Asplund, Poul Kjærholm and Børge Mogensen,” says Kajus, “but we also draw inspiration from contemporary French, Japanese and American designers and architects. “

With this multifaceted crossover of modern and contemporary styles, Million blends minimalist notes of beige woods and simple lines with richer shades of steel, marble and brass. All produced in Northern Europe, the highlights include the geometric angles of the “Libertine” coat rack and the bold and playful hues of the “Corona” wall hooks.

The brand also specializes in promoting future talent, with a selection of pieces by young Danish designer Terkel Skou Steffensen. The range starts at € 200, with an eclectic selection of colors available for each product.
