DOGWOOD Designs is a new and growing Irish furniture design company and is creating a real buzz among interior design and furniture enthusiasts.
It was created by Danny Ogge and Anna O’Grady in response to a growing demand in the Irish market for modern plywood furniture design.
Having lived in Melbourne for 13 years, the couple moved with their family to Westport in 2020 at the height of the pandemic.
“We had a lot of time to think and even though it seemed like a crazy time to start a business when the whole country was in lockdown, we still decided to give it a try,” says Anna.
And it’s lucky they did. The company is getting better and better, with a waiting list for many of their creations.
“I think people have had a lot of time to think about the houses they live in. For years, kit furniture has been all the rage. But at the end of the day, fast furniture, like fast fashion, has a very limited lifespan,” says Anna.
People are now looking to invest in more durable pieces that are both beautifully designed and more durable. More and more people are looking to invest in the spaces where they spend the most time, such as bathrooms, kitchens and living rooms.
Initially starting with a bathroom vanity design, chief designer Danny has now had to introduce a range of products in response to demand for his designs.
Danny has a passion for creating high end hardwood and birch plywood furniture and is committed to creating a product that is loved and lasts. It draws inspiration from both Australian and Scandinavian modern design.
Each piece is made in the Westport workshop – designed with simplicity and strength.
Dogwood Designs prides itself on quality, craftsmanship and attention to detail, and is committed to making pieces for life with a negligible footprint. They have designed a range of modern bathroom and kitchen furniture in hardwood and birch plywood. This can be seen on their website https://www.dogwooddesigns.ie/.
They say: “We have been very fortunate to have been embraced by the design community here in Ireland.
“When you’re starting out as a small business, getting your message across can be difficult. We use social media to share our projects with our followers and luckily we have had the opportunity to see our designs featured on TV (RTÉ Bungalow Bliss), as well as in a number of Irish interior magazines.
Dogwood Designs is happy to help you plan a future design for your bathroom or kitchen. Keep up to date with their upcoming projects on Instagram and Facebook.
