Melbourne Design Show 2022

The NGV and the Melbourne Art Foundation will showcase the best contemporary collectible design in Australia.

As part of this year’s Melbourne Design Week, the National Gallery of Victoria and the Melbourne Art Foundation will present the first-ever Melbourne Design Fair. Taking place from March 16-20 at Warehouse 16 in Abbotsford, the Melbourne Design Fair showcases the best contemporary collectible design from over a hundred Australian designers and manufacturers.

The fair features presentations by leading commercial galleries, organizations and design agencies, as well as a flagship exhibition of works for sale curated by NGV’s contemporary design and architecture department. For those who want to go, it’s a special opportunity to discover – and buy – a rare, limited-edition and one-of-a-kind collectible contemporary design.

The works will be presented on two platforms. The first, Present, focuses on furniture, lighting, object and speculative design brought to life by thirteen commercial galleries, design organisations, agencies and studios – including Broached Commissions, Christopher Boots Studio, Craft Victoria, Design Tasmania, Sophie Gannon Gallery and Sullivan+Strumpf. The second platform, Select, brings together over 36 Australian designers in a showcase curated by NGV’s Contemporary Design and Architecture department, featuring work for sale from Australian design luminaries and rising stars. Among them are industrial designer Adam Goodrum; furniture and object designer Dale Hardiman; Yolngu artist Gunybi Ganambarr; ceramicist James Lemon; jewelry and object designer Anna Varendorff; colorful sculptural artist Kate Rohde; and the Ferro Forma metallurgical workshop.

There will also be a series of discussions and conversations with exhibiting designers, design curators and critics, aimed at broadening awareness of the contemporary collectible design scene in Australia and overseas.
